Field Trip to Hamburg - Company: Don Limon
On the 8th of July, five master students visited the Hamburg Wholesale Market, where the Company Don Limón is located. The aim of the visit was to learn about how the fresh fruits and vegetables market works in Europe.
Don Limón itself has only been around for 6 years, but its experience goes back over 60 years: In 1952 the family business Pilz Schindler was founded in Hamburg. The company is now being run by the third generation of the family, and over the years, the little fruit stand at the Hamburg Wholesale Market has turned into a global company: Don Limón. The company has been working in the exotic fruits and vegetables business, managing the whole value chain for some of the products.
The students had the opportunity to talk with the General Manager of the company, Mr. Andreas Schindler, who shared the experiences of the business. They also interchanged professional experiences with the Alumni Mr. Rolando Haches, who has been working in the company for more than 5 years.
Following there are some impressions about the visit:
"Hamburg is one of the most important ports all over the world, and the opportunity we had to visit the company Don Limón has been worth it. The company has been working in the exotic fruit and vegetables for more than 60 years, and all this expertise in international business we have been able to get it in just few hours" (Antonio Campoverde, Ecuador).
"The visit to Don Limón was very interesting because we had the opportunity to know some of the behavior of the fresh fruit market in one of the main ports of Europe. It was also very important to listen the experience of the alumni Rolando Haches regarding his job and the skills needed for the good professional performance" (Beatriz Herrera, Honduras).
