Democracies in Europe are facing profound challenges. Against this backdrop, how can we ensure that young people have the skills needed to actively participate in democratic processes? The Erasmus+ project EuroConnect – Strengthening Civic Competences and EU Democratic Life, in which the Institute of Political Science at the University of Göttingen has been participating since November 2025, addresses this very question.

April 8–9, 2026: Master's orientation phase
At the beginning of April, the annual orientation phase for new master's students at our faculty will take place again. Students will be welcomed in person in Göttingen before the start of the semester. In addition, you will receive all the relevant information for your studies and have the opportunity to get to know your fellow students and lecturers. Good Practice Teaching Examples – Summer Semester 2025
We are delighted to once again honor outstanding teachers from the Faculty of Social Sciences! Mission statement for teaching and learning
The University of Göttingen has summarized its understanding of good teaching in a mission statement for teaching and learning. This mission statement was developed in a broad, university-wide, participatory process involving teachers, students, and members of the academic administration.

Research funding
The faculty subsidizes applications for funding for doctoral studies and the post-doctoral phase, as well as applications for funding for internationalization. The Research Commission decides on the applications received.

Dissertation defense and habilitation dates
Approximately 10 students complete their doctorates at the Faculty of Social Sciences each year, and 1-2 people obtain their habilitation. The dates of public university disputations and lectures can be found here.
