Advice on special, personal circumstances that influence academic success

We define 'special, personal circumstances' primarily as having experienced lasting impairments or sudden events that have a negative impact on your academic success.

These can be chronic illnesses and/or psychological impairments such as dyslexia or exam anxiety - but we also include personal/family circumstances such as childcare, caring for relatives or coping with a death in the immediate family or circle of friends.

We are not a psychological counselling service, so our help is limited. However, we will try to help you find your way back to your studies. We will show you possible solutions to overcome conflicts with the examination regulations or, if possible, to prevent them from arising in the first place. Most importantly, we will put you in touch with people who can provide you with professional support.

It is important that you contact us as early as possible, as the more time that passes, the more limited the scope for action. It is particularly important that you contact us or the Examination Office as soon as possible if you are directly affected by an examination period.
