Excursion to Fruitlogistica
Excursion to Fruit Logistica in Berlin, February 2013.
On the 7th of February, a group of 6 master students visited FRUIT LOGISTICA in Messe Berlin.
With over 2,400 exhibitors from 70 countries, FRUIT LOGISTICA is the leading international trade fair for the fresh fruits and vegetables business. During this year, Peru was the Official Partner Country.
For three whole days, FRUIT LOGISTICA provided a unique opportunity to have an overview of what the entire industry has to offer, information about new products and trends, an excellent platform for making worldwide business contacts, and the chance to observe the market and the competition.
The master students attended to some forums about new opportunities and trends for fresh products from Latin America, thus as a result it became a source of new ideas and inspiration. They also met alumni’s of the IARD program who are nowadays working in the agribusiness industry. Also, some students met with potential business partners or employers, and plan interesting research projects or career building.
Here are some opinions and impressions of the master students about the excursion: “I found very interesting how competitive are all the countries, some of them are specialized in an specific product or type of agriculture, they keep producing conventional products but other are going further and they are doing innovations. In both cases they work hard in order to developed a good brand and image to positioning and differentiate their products in the market. I noticed too that on these days an important issue to be part of international trade is that production has to be certificated, not just in quality but also in fair trade, organic and/or environmental care”. (José Barrios, Guatemala).
“I had never been to a fair like that before, with huge dimensions not only in space but also moneywise. The organization and the place were flawless. We were able to see a lot of the current international trade players. For me it was particularly interesting the innovation space, for breakthrough technology and it was quite clear that Europe is a really important market for fruits exports/imports, and I realized how many people and companies are involved in this sector.” (Gustavo Shiomi, Brazil).
