Abstract submission is open for our RS-ET session at EGU27!
Since we started this session in 2019, it has been exciting to see our RS-ET (Remote Sensing of Evapotranspiration) community grow and continue advancing the monitoring and understanding of water use and availability across diverse landscapes.
With increasing challenges related to climate change, water scarcity, drought, and ecosystem sustainability, advances in RS-based ET estimation are becoming increasingly important for agriculture, water resources management, climate adaptation, and ecosystem monitoring.
🛰️🌱 We welcome contributions showcasing recent methodological and technological advances in ET estimation, modelling, monitoring, validation, uncertainty quantification, and forecasting. Topics include AI/ML, data assimilation and fusion, emerging satellite and airborne observations, cloud computing, and innovative applications across different ecosystems and spatial scales.
Our session provides a great opportunity to share new findings, discuss challenges, and explore future directions in remote sensing of ET.
Looking forward to your contributions and another year of inspiring discussions at EGU27!

Soil carbon under pressure: understanding land use change in Argentina’s dry Chaco
09 January 2026: Dr. Antonios Apostolakis from Division Agronomy has published a new blog post, “Soil Carbon Under Pressure: Understanding Land Use Change in Argentina’s Dry Chaco,” highlighting collaborative research with Department of Biodiversity, Macroecology and Biogeography on land use change effects on soil carbon in Argentina's Dry Chaco Forest. The full article is available on his personal website.

Axel Gualdoni-Becerra performs soil organic matter fractionation while Carolina Genoni records the process for the needs of a documentary on the deforestation in Argentina’s Dry Chaco.
Outstanding Student and PhD candidate Presentation (OSPP) Awards 2025
11 November 2025: Our group member Paulina Englert received an award for her poster at the European Geoscience Union (EGU) conference in Vienna.
In her poster, she presented a dataset covering 2.5 years of half-hourly Eddy Covariance nitrous oxide (N₂O) flux measurements from the research station of the University of Göttingen called Reinshof (DE-Rns). N₂O emissions induced by fertilization, rainfall, freeze–thaw cycles, and tillage, as well as periods of N₂O uptake were observed. The results emphasize the importance of year-round, high-resolution N₂O measurements to capture short-term emission peaks and diel cycles. Such data are essential for obtaining realistic estimates of greenhouse gas budgets from crop cultivation as a basis to develop effective mitigation strategies.
