Human Geography
The Department of Human Geography focuses on spatially related social action and the corresponding spatial structures, patterns and representations. We adopt a problem-oriented, theory-driven and empirically grounded approach to topics in urban geography, geographical research on risk, vulnerability and resilience, as well as socio-ecological and political transformations. Another key focus of the department is the geography of leisure and tourism.
We place great emphasis on interdisciplinarity and practical relevance. In our teaching, we prioritise research-based, project-based learning with regional connections. Our regional focuses are Germany, Central Europe and South Asia.
