Postdoctoral Position in Jewish Studies

At the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, the Chair of Jewish Studies has a vacancy to be filled as soon as possible for one

Postdoc (f/m/d)


with 75% of the regular weekly working hours (currently 29,85 hours/week) for a limited period of 48 months (4 years). The salary is paid according to pay group 13 TV-L.

The research focus should be in one of the following areas or ideally combine them: rabbinic literature, history of Jewish thought.

The position is intended for the completion of a habilitation and includes the following tasks:

  • (Co-)organization of academic events.
  • Assistance in general administrative matters related to the chair.
  • Teaching responsibilities of 3 hours per week during each semester.

  • Prerequisites:
  • Excellent doctorate in Jewish Studies or a closely related field.
  • Initial experience in research and teaching.
  • Willingness to integrate into the research environment of the chair and to participate in general tasks and academic self-administration.
  • Strong proficiency in Hebrew, in all its forms and manifestations.
  • Excellent written and spoken English Good knowledge of German, with a willingness to improve it.
  • Familiarity with rabbinic literature.
  • Knowledge of Jewish thought and history.
  • Preferably, knowledge of or experience in designing accessible teaching (methods & didactics).
