Guide for presenters
Format and Timing
- The colloquium talk should be 45 minutes in total.
- Aim for about 35–40 minutes of presentation and 5–10 minutes for discussion.
- Please keep track of time. Students and staff may need to leave for lectures right after.
Audience
- The colloquium is part of the compulsory programme for Earth Science and Geography MSc students, who therefore form the core audience.
- In addition, staff, PhD candidates, and postdocs from both geography and geology regularly attend.
- Please give your talk in English, as the MSc programmes are taught in English and there are non-German-speaking students and staff in the audience.
- Although most participants have a strong Earth science background, not everyone will be familiar with your specific research area. Please provide enough context for a broad academic audience.
- Think of the event as an open academic lecture rather than a specialist seminar or conference presentation.
Slides and Delivery
- Please bring your own laptop. An HDMI cable is provided, but remember to bring an adapter if your device needs one.
- Use a 16:9 slide ratio for the best display fit.
- Text smaller than 12 pt can be hard to read from the back of the room.
- Normal speaking volume works well in the room. If you prefer to use a microphone, let the organisers know in advance.
