Microcredential-Kurs
Integration of Drone-Based Remote Sensing Data into Forestry Operations
COURSE OBJECTIVE
The course offers the opportunity to pursue further training in the exciting field of drone surveys and the practical benefits of drone-based remote sensing data.
Participants will get to know the fundamental characteristics and potential applications of high-resolution remote sensing data. Depending on the platforms and sensors used, drone-based remote sensing enables the short-term acquisition of large volumes of data, which, however, require specialized processing steps to prepare them effectively for use. The various processing steps of different drone-based data sources will be demonstrated using examples and can, if applicable, also be replicated using your own data.
YOUR BENEFITS
Application Opportunities: Presentation of various drone-based remote sensing data. Practical Examples: Data evaluation, in-depth knowledge on the topic of using drones for forestry and forest ecological questions.
BENEFITS FOR YOUR COMPANY
Improved Decision-Making: The data processing and analysis skills taught in the course enable remote sensing data to be prepared in such a way that it can be used directly for forestry operations. Application to Operationally Relevant Issues: The course provides not only theoretical knowledge but also practical application examples and the opportunity to contribute your own data.
Curriculum
The combination of practical applications and theoretical foundations represents a central element of the course. Participants will be given the opportunity to work on real-world use cases.
- Basic knowledge of drone types and sensor technology
- Flight planning and parameters
- Fundamental aspects of drone surveys over forests
- Fields of application for drone-based deployment in forestry operations
- Knowledge required to obtain a drone license
- Basic knowledge in the field of remote sensing
- Introduction to image analysis and the creation of canopy height models
- Exemplary presentation of AI-supported evaluations (e.g., individual tree detection)
- Integration with existing GIS data and visualization
Target Group
The course is aimed at professionals with an interest in drone surveys, data processing and analysis, as well as the practical application of remote sensing. Prior knowledge in these areas is advantageous but not strictly required. Potential target groups for the course offering are:
- State forestry enterprises (including forest research institutes, forest planning offices, or other institutions)
- Private forestry enterprises or other forest owners
- Scientists in application-oriented research projects
- Forestry or forest-related service companies (forest management planning, landscape planning, ecology, nature conservation)
Prerequisites are a completed degree in forestry or forest sciences (Bachelor, Master, Diploma, or equivalent), at least two years of professional experience in a forestry environment, as well as a personal laptop with the ability to install QGIS or other software.
