Enrolment process for admitted Doctoral Studies/Ph.D. Students

These instructions describe the enrolment process for admitted Doctoral Studies/Ph.D. Students with Non-German university entrance entitlement.
The enrolment process for doctoral studies is regulated inconsistently at the University of Göttingen. Therefore, it is important that you assign yourself to the selection of faculties or graduate schools mentioned below. Subsequently, you will learn how to enrol correctly for your field of study.

Instructions for enrolment in doctoral programmes
at the Faculties of Social Sciences, Economics and Law and Graduate School of Social Sciences (GGG) and the Doctoral degree programmes Medicine, Dentistry and Medicine-HumanitiesYou would like to enrol in a doctoral programme that belongs to the Faculty of Social Sciences, Economics or Law or to the Graduate School of Social Sciences (GGG)?
To do so, please first register under step 1 and follow all further 5 steps to complete your enrollment process. Step 1: Online registration
Enter your email address as well as a password and choose the semester for which you would like to be enroled. You will then receive a first confirmation email with your personal login data and a link to the enrolment portal. Please confirm your email address with that link.
Online registration for enrolment is possible beginning:
01.06. for winter semester
01.12. for summer semester
Fill in the online enrolment form and submit your form data electronically. You will then receive a registration number and a second confirmation email with a link to the upload portal.
Upload the requested enrolment documents and please make sure to choose the correct document type. Please click "binding submission" in order to finalize the process. Please do not send these documents by mail (post)!
- Admission/Acceptance letter which you have received from the faculty or graduate school
- Copy of your last degree (Bachelor/Master/Diplom)
- If required, proof of German language proficiency
- If required, certificate of de-registration/certificate of previous study periods at a German University
- Proof of payment of semester fee
- For students of University medical centre: Proof of valid measles vaccination
Please transfer the semester fee in due time to the university bank account. Your enrolment can only be finalized once we have received your payment. Please fill in your registration number and full name as reference!
We will process your documents and, if possible, finalize your enrolment. Should we require further documents, we will contact you. When all documents are complete and payment can be verified finalizing your enrolment usually takes two to three weeks, after which you will receive an automatically generated mail with information about your Student ID and how to begin your studies.
You would like to enrol in a doctoral programme that belongs to one of the following graduate schools?
Georg-August University School of Science (GAUSS)
Göttingen Graduate School for Neurosciences, Biophysics, and Molecular Biosciences (GGNB)
Graduate School in Forest and Agricultural Sciences (GFA)
Graduate School of Humanities Göttingen (GSGG)
Please use the portal and the access data of the respective graduate school, which you have already used for the application process. If you do not know them anymore, please contact the contact person of the respective graduate school, which is mentioned on your admission letter.
You are already enroled at the University of Göttingen and would now like to transfer for your doctorate?
If this applies to you a new enrolment is not necessary. After you have been admitted to the doctoral programme, you only need to submit an application to change your course of study (pdf) and a copy of your admission letter. Please mail both documents to:international.study@uni-goettingen.de.
After the processing of your application has been completed, you can view and print the change of your status in eCampus.
