HeKKSaGOn partner universities agree further activities
No. 43.3 - 26.09.2023
Joint projects and collaboration in technology transfer and start-ups planned
The six partner universities of the German-Japanese higher education network HeKKSaGOn agreed on further joint activities at the end of their Rectors' Meeting in Göttingen. These include another call for funding for joint projects in spring 2024 and the establishment of collaboration in the cross-cutting area of "Technology Transfer and Entrepreneurship".
The ninth Rectors' Conference of the Network, which includes the Universities of Göttingen and Heidelberg, the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Kyoto University, Osaka University and Tohoku University in Sendai, took place on 21 and 22 September at the University of Göttingen. The topic of this year's conference was the highly topical question "What opportunities and challenges does Artificial Intelligence offer for the higher education sector?". The two-day event was attended by a total of more than 130 people, including presidents, researchers and students from all HeKKSaGOn member universities.
The Rectors' Meeting was accompanied by an international symposium hosted by the Gesellschaft für wissenschaftliche Datenverarbeitung mbH Göttingen (GWDG). The symposium and rectors' conference focused on the question of what impact the development of generative artificial intelligence has already had on higher education institutions, what consequences should be expected, and what new opportunities may arise from the technology. In addition, a Data Science Summer School (11 to 22 September 2023) with around 30 students took place in the run-up to the conference.
At the end of the conference, the HeKKSaGOn representatives adopted a joint statement outlining the agreed upcoming joint activities. The tenth HeKKSaGOn Rectors' Meeting will take place in Osaka in autumn 2025.
