No. 104 - 02.07.2021
GWK funds Göttingen University’s new centre for human social cognition research
The Gemeinsame Wissenschaftskonferenz (Joint Science Conference, GWK) of the German Government and the Länder has awarded funding for the Human Cognition and Behavior (HuCaB) research building at the University of Göttingen. The new building will be home to an interdisciplinary centre for research into human social cognition. In addition, the funding will enable the acquisition of several large pieces of equipment. This includes a magnetoencephalograph (MEG) for recording brain activity with millisecond precision, without noise and without physical contact with the participant.
The new building, with a total area of around 3,500 square metres, is to be built on the University's central campus between Goßlerstraße and Heinrich-Düker-Weg. According to current estimates, the total costs will be in the region of 37 million euros. Construction is scheduled to begin in autumn 2022 and to be completed in mid-2025.
